Coach Lemieux

Coach's Quotes

"Accountability. Every swimmer is responsible for how well they train. You can come to practice and give it your all, or you can choose to settle for mediocrity. The choice is yours. What kind of swimmer are you?"

"Swimming is not just physical it's also mental. It's about pushing through the pain when your muscles are burning with lactic acid and you want to stop. It's about taking it to the next level, knowing you can and then doing it!"

Team Records Broken at Jr. Nationals

This morning at Jr. Nationals in Orlando, Florida, Lindsey Hagens broke the Greenwood 100 Breaststroke record with a time of 1:03.22. The record was previously set by Karri Charpentier in 1997 with a time of 1:03.63. Lindsey is seeded in 3rd place going into finals tonight in both the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:59.11. On Tuesday, Michael Pryor finished in 14th place in the 1000 Freestyle. He shaved almost 5 seconds off his best time and finished with a time of 9:21.31. In addition, today Rachael Desantis had two life time best in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05) and the 200 Fly (2:05.1). We wish Lindsey, Michael, Rachael and Tina Belletete continued success as they represent our team at Jr. Nationals. More Team Records Shattered at Jr. Nationals

Michael Pryor broke the Greenwood team record in the 1000 yard Freestyle with a time of 9:21.31 on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. He shaved almost 5 seconds off his best time and shattered the record that was previously held by Stefan Bartl of 9:26.48 in 2004. An interesting note about Jr. Nationals this year, because this is an Olympic year the events are being swam in yards for Trials and meters for Finals. On Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Lindsey Hagens had two 3rd place finishes during Trials in the 200 yard Backstroke and the 100 yard Breaststroke. That evening, she swam the events again in meters for Finals. She landed in 7th place in her 100 meter Breaststroke with a time of 1:14.35 and held onto her 3rd place ranking in the 200 meter Backstroke with a time of 2:18.20. Unfortunately, her 200 meter Backstroke was 2/10ths of a second off of qualifying her for the Olympic Team Trials! Coach Lemieux said, "It was extremely difficult for Lindsey to have the advantage she needed because we haven't been training in a 50 meter pool on a consistent basis. She will be doing a time trial on Friday, March 21st in hopes of capturing the 200 Backstroke time. If she doesn't get it here, we will come home, work harder and make sure Lindsey has another shot at it!" The Olympic Team Trials will be held in Omaha, Nebraska on June 29 - July 6, 2008. If Lindsey can qualify, she will join former teammate Erica Meissner who will be swimming the 100 Back, 200 Back, 200 IM and 400 IM at the Olympic Team Trials. On Thursday morning, March 20th, the team rocked the pool in Orlando, Florida. In the 400 IM, Rachael Desantis (4:23.4) and Lindsey Hagens (4:24.4) both secured spots in the Top 16 and will be returning to swim the events again tonight. In addition, Lindsey is in 9th place in her 50 Breaststroke (29.9) going into tonights final's. Michael Pryor broke his own team record in the 400 IM. His previous time was 3:58.38 set in 2007. The new team record is 3:57.8.

There were 17 swimmers from our top group that took on the waters at 13 and Over Championships at Harvard University on February 7-10, 2008. They placed in the top eight spots in most of the events that they qualified in.  For some of the Greenwood swimmers this meet earned them a trip to Jr. Nationals being held in Orlando, Florida on March 18-22, 2008.  We had several swimmers capture individual high point honors.  They included Eva Fabian who earned 3rd place in the Women's 13-14, Lindsey Hagens who took 1st place in the Women's 15 & Over, Michael Pryor 2nd place Men's 15 & Over, Rachael Desantis 8th place Women's 15 & Over, and Mitchell Dansky 8th place Men's 15 & Over.  In addition, 13 year old Taylor Strachan placed 16th in her 100-yard backstroke. The 13 and Over swimmers took 5th place overall.  Other swimmers who represented Greenwood were Eve Barnard, Tina Belletete, Max Fabian, Ross Honig, Nate Hosking, Hannah Kondrotas, Shannan Lambert, Ana MacKay, Adam McNally, Danielle Sekurski, and David Stiles. Congratulations to all our swimmers!
